About plainfolio

plainfolio is a free, deliberately old school photo portfolio host. You upload photos, they arrange themselves into a clean grid, and your site looks like it was made in 2005. No templates, no page builder, no clutter.

Plainfolio started as one photographer's own site, jamespaquette.plainfolio.site, built because every portfolio builder wanted to be a page designer first and a photo host second. Templates, animations, and drag and drop editors all get in the way of the one thing a portfolio actually needs to do: show the photos, in order, without cropping them into a shape they were not taken in.

2005 is not a gimmick here. That was the last era before every website started looking like every other website. A plain background, plain text links, and photos that fill the page is still the fastest way to look at someone's work.

Plainfolio is free because a portfolio should not cost more than the camera did. Pro exists to cover hosting for people who outgrow the free limits, at $1.99 a month.
