Frequently asked questionsIs Plainfolio really free?Yes. The free plan is free forever: 50 MB of photos (about 30 to 35 photos) and 3 categories, no credit card needed.What do I get for $1.99 a month?Pro raises the limits to 10 GB of photos and 50 categories, unlocks Pro-only layouts like Port Deposit, and removes the "made with plainfolio" footer from your site.Can I use my own domain?Yes, by forwarding it. At the company where you bought your domain (GoDaddy, Namecheap, Cloudflare and so on), set up domain forwarding from yourname.com to yourname.plainfolio.site. Anyone who types your domain lands on your plainfolio site. After the jump, the address bar shows yourname.plainfolio.site; keeping your own domain in the address bar is not supported yet.How is this different from Squarespace or Wix?Squarespace and Wix are page builders with hundreds of design choices to make. Plainfolio has none. You upload photos, they land in a grid, and the site looks like it was made in 2005, on purpose. See plainfolio.site/compare for side by side comparisons.Why does it look old school?Because most portfolio sites now look identical: the same fonts, the same fade-in animations, the same hero image. A plain, fast, 2005 style site is a deliberate choice, not a limitation.What happens to my photos if I stop paying?Nothing is deleted and your site stays online. It moves to the free plan, so new uploads pause until you are back under the free limits.Does Plainfolio compress my photos?Photos are resized in your browser to 2400px on the long edge before upload, and location data is removed. The site also stores a smaller 1200px version for fast grid loading.Can I download all my photos?Not as a single export yet. Each photo is available at its own full size image address, and this is planned as a proper one click download.Who owns my photos?You do. Plainfolio hosts them; it does not claim any rights to them.Is it OK for students?Yes. Many student and art school portfolios fit comfortably in the free plan, and the "hide from search engines" setting keeps a site private while it is a work in progress.What content is not allowed?Illegal content, harassment, and anything you do not have the right to post.
